Three kittens, some waiting

Jackie had three beautiful kittens this morning! It was a ten hour labor (starting around 1:00AM, of course)  but mom and babies are doing fine. Some mother’s shoot them out like a machine gun, but Jackie decided that she’d relax and enjoy the experience of delivering her last litter before she retires.

All of these kittens are reserved. It’s too soon to tell reliably what the kitten’s genders are, but we’ll update everyone when we know for sure!

Handsome boy

Diggy had a great time at the cat show in Cambridge, MA this weekend.  He especially enjoyed entertaining  the attendees. In fact, he won Spectator’s Choice First Place on Sunday!

He plans to put his good looks to use soon by wooing some of our girls and becoming a dad for the first time.

This is my heroic pose.

This is my sexy pose.

This is my casual pose.

Georgette will be available soon!

Update: Georgette will be going to her new home soon!

Georgette is retiring from making kittens! She will be five years old in May.  We plan to spay her soon and she will be available for placement shortly thereafter.

Georgie is very affectionate with her people and likes her lap time. However, she also wants to be the Boss Cat and will probably fit in best in a home without any other pets.

If you are interested in adopting an adult, please fill out a placement application.

Just doing that cat show thing

Diggy, Euraka, and Lola are getting used to being show cats! The cat show in Natick, MA was their first one this year and they took to it like they’d never been away from the show hall. That may not sound like a heavy lift but when a cat is playful and interactive it helps them to show their best features to the judges.

At eight months old this was Diggy’s first time in the adult class and he did well enough to earn his Champion title.  We’ll get to see how far he can go as he grows and fills out!

Eureka and Lola are still competing as kittens but we’re pretty sure their friendliness with the judges was enhanced by their reaction to being near so many boys. It’s hard to believe that later this year they’ll be making kittens themselves.

Goodbye, Flash

Getting some beauty sleep.

Flash  Gordon passed away in his sleep last night.   He would have been thirteen years old next week. He and his brother Fargo (who is still with us) were the founding patriarchs of our cattery.  More than that, he was a big lump of love and ever-present companion, always ready to for some lap time. Whether he needed the lap time or we needed the lap time was a matter of opinion.

Flash’s career a show cat was brief. He was gentle in the benching area, but he knew something was up when he was carried up to the judges and he did NOT like it.  Even though he didn’t make it to many shows, his red silver coat quickly earned him the nickname, “the pink cat.”

Flash and Gizmo (also still with us) are the parents of Noreaster, our first Quadruple Grand Champion.

He left us with a lot of funny stories. One of our favorites was the time he was supposed to have a romantic interlude with one of our girls. She happened to be almost as long as him, so try he might (for 45 minutes!) he couldn’t get the right angle. Finally, he backed up about three feet, took a running jump, and hit his mark. Clever boy. Maybe 45 minutes late being clever, but still clever.

Although he slowed down in the past few years, Flash handled the ongoing influx of cats and kittens with patience. When people came to visit the cattery he was always right there to greet them and look impressive.  He was always friendly with anyone who came to the house and showed them how sweet “gentle giant” could be.

He is missed.

The pink cat.

Back when he could fit in a sink.

Staying classy.

He was also useful as a kitten pillow.

He never met a basket or box he didn’t like.

This looks like a good spot.

He was a confident kitten.

Monster Kittens Destroy Tokyo!

Every litter of kittens has milestones for which we watch. Walking. Eating solid food. Climbing on the chair. Pooping IN the litter box. Stuff like that. Fiona’s kittens are progressing  very well, indeed. The pooping OUTSIDE the box phase was amazingly short, and they seemed go from walking to climbing very quickly.

They’ve also taken to running toward the door when it opens to see what is beyond the kitten nursery, but thus far we’ve proven ourselves to be faster and smarter than kittens. For now.

All of these kittens are reserved.

Godzilla (boy)

Little Monsters

Fiona gave birth to four huge kittens today! What they lack in quantity they make up for in sheer mass.  Mother and kids are doing well. More pictures and updates to come!

Update 10/2/17: Unfortunately we lost one of the kittens last night. One of them wasn’t gaining weight as fast as the others and last night Fiona had pushed him to the back of the nest (never a good sign).  He was cold and we tried to warm him up but within an hour he stopped breathing. We know this happens sometimes but you never get used to it.

All of these kittens are reserved.

Twice as good

Fiona will give birth to four kittens next week!

The first time that Fiona and Buster mated in 2016 they only had two kittens (Yin and Yang). We were worried that either Fiona was winding down her time as a mom or Buster’s swimmers weren’t working. However, it was his first time so maybe he wasn’t quite ready yet (and he has since proven himself to be quite adept at becoming a dad).

We’re happy to see that this time around they’re having twice as many!  This is probably Fiona’s last litter so we’re glad she’s going out on a high note.

Two of these kittens are reserved.

Four skulls!
