The best-informed kittens on the Internet

We keep the radio tuned to NPR pretty much all day, so one day I suggested that having well-informed kittens would be a point in our favor when it comes to choosing a cattery. Alas, Marie doesn’t think knowledge of world affairs that is something people are really looking for in a kitten. I’m not so sure. They always seem to perk up when Marketplace comes on. Sure, that is also around dinner time and could be the sound of a can opening, but it could also be the dulcet tones of Kai Ryssdal, right?

In any case, this discussion led to “Things you hear on NPR” becoming the naming theme for this litter.  Without further delay, may we present them to you in all their cuteness!

(Oh, all kittens in this litter are reserved).

Congratulations, Marie!

Paw-G1G2-531bAs many of you know, Marie is the brains of the cattery and does all of the heavy lifting when it comes to breeding, genetics, nutrition and such. Well, on top of this she just passed the rigorous PawPeds Paw Academy G2 breeder course! She passed the G1 course last year. Few breeders in the US have taken these courses, and even with ten years of experience Marie still found plenty to learn.  It was definitely worth the time and effort.

Little things get bigger

Georgette’s kittens continue to grow and (of course) look cute. Their eyes are just opening but you wouldn’t always know it for all the sleeping they do. Eat. Sleep. It’s a kitten’s life.

Looks kind of like an Escher drawing, no?

Goodbye, Duke

Duke (boy)

Duke

Duke passed away last night. He was nine weeks old.  We’ll know more about the cause of death when the results come back from the lab in a week or so.

We’ve lost kittens during birthing or shortly thereafter, but this is the first time in ten years of breeding that we’ve lost a kitten at this age. We know that statistically this sort of thing is bound to happen eventually, but it doesn’t make it hurt any less.

Goodbye, Duke. You were a sweet boy and we miss you already.

Rover is available!

Update 5/31/15: Rover is no longer available!

This sweet girl is still available. Rover is a very energetic girl, is super-outgoing, and quick to purr for you. She started out as the smallest of the litter but has definitely caught up with her siblings. Plus, she is the only one from the litter with that pink nose, which is pretty hard to resist. Admit it. The pink nose compels you!

If you are interested please fill out our placement application.

Squeakers

Georgette’s little squeakers are doing well; eating, sleeping, and growing like kittens do. Some litters are quieter than others, but this bunch definitely has good lungs. They squeak when you pick them up, they squeak when Georgette gets up to eat or drink, the squeak when they hear the NPR newsreader say, “Myanmar, also known as Burma.”  I think that’s what they were reacting to. Maybe they were just hungry.

All kittens in this litter are reserved.

A mother on Mother’s Day

Georgette gave birth to six big kittens last night (Mother’s Day). The first one was breach (of course) but they all came out fine in the end. We’ll have better pictures when momma lets us get close enough to get a good focus. In the meantime… kittens!

There are six there, really.

Nostradamus has nothing on us

We predict that Georgette will give birth to six kittens on or about May 10th. Our amazing predictive powers are fueled by X-rays and a far too intimate knowledge of when conception occurred.

Until birthing, here are some kitten pictures to tide you over! Okay, kitten skeleton pictures… but still… kittens!

Five shades of grey

Everyone says that Maine Coons are the dogs of the cat world. So who says we can’t give them (temporary) dog names? We certainly don’t. Without further delay we present to you the five grey kittens of the “Dog litter!” Four of these kittens have been reserved.

We hang out on the chair. That is what we do.
