Keeping warm
Here are Jackie Blue’s kittens all lined up in a row. They do this on their own (around here was call it the “Kitten Cluster”). Kittens can’t regulate their body temperature on their own for about three weeks, so they instinctively huddle together, or next to Mom. Jackie’s warm milk helps, too (and we have a heating pad under there as well).

I’m tired. Leave me alone.
Jackie gave birth to five big kittens this afternoon! She is a bit worn out (delivery took almost four hours) but everyone is doing fine. More pictures to come!

Kittens!
It looks like Jackie Blue will be giving birth to five or six kittens next week. Definitely five, but we think there is another one partially obscured by the poo.

Something is kicking in there!
Jackie Blue will be getting X-rayed next week and then we’ll know how many kittens to expect. In the meantime, here she is showing off her big kitten belly!

Ashley and Noreaster’s kittens are doing great and getting cuter by the minute. We’ve named this litter after characters in the independent Star Trek film Axanar because it is completely awesome and you should check it out. Plus, I really wanted to name a kitten Kharn the Undying. Klingon kitten!
All of these kittens have been reserved!

Update: Sylvia has been reserved and her new family will pick her up next week. So, one more week of guarding our mugs from a coffee-loving kitten! 🙂
Sylvia is still available! Things fell through with the folks who had reserved her, but that means that if you can’t wait for a kitten you’re in luck, since she’s old enough to go home. If you’re interested, please fill out our placement application.
She is fourteen weeks old and super-cute in both attitude and personality. In case you think we’re biased, here is the proof:

Pippi’s kittens (also known as the “mobile potatoes”) all have temporary names that rhyme with Pippi. Hey, it’s a better theme than “Rhymes with Rigel.” Nigel? Di-gel? It hurts my brain.
Anyway, these kids are scampering around the kitten room, mostly learning to use the litter box, and enjoying tummy rubs. Some of them are a little camera shy (Zippy kept running out of frame, hence his name) but they’ll get over that.

We’re pleased to welcome Jackie Blue to our household as a new dam. She comes to us courtesy of Phil & Marjorie Berger (MaineVu Maine Coons) and Bill & Susan Lee (Coons Cross). Thank you to both catteries for this lovely girl!
Jackie is slowly adjusting to her new environment and getting to know the other denizens of our household. In the short time we’ve known her we have learned a few key things, however:
- Jackie love, love, loves cheek and head rubs (I mean really, she leans into it).
- She will roll around on the floor and chirp for no apparent reason. Either she is already in heat or she is just naturally happy.
- She is excellent at finding new and interesting hiding places. How did she get in there? Even the kittens don’t get in there!
- Responds to pretty much any nickname we care to think of. Jacks, Jackie the Jokester, Wacky Jackie, whatever.
- As I write this, she is licking the door. Live with cats, embrace the weird. I think that’s my new motto.

I shall sit regally upon the yarn stash.

Ashley gave birth to seven kittens in the wee hours of the morning today. Just like her grandmother (Nutmeg) she shot them out in rapid succession with very little drama. Maybe she could have picked a more convenient time, but we’ll have a serious talk with her about scheduling after she’s had some rest. I’m sure she’ll understand.
Five of these kittens have been reserved.

Yeah, it’s going to be like this for a few weeks, isn’t it?

Pippi’s kittens continue their progression from tiny fur blobs to enormous fur blobs. At this stage they resemble fuzzy potatoes and we start kicking around names like “Russet,” “Yukon Gold,” and “Idaho.” Then we remember our personal ban on naming kittens after food and wait for some other inspiration.
Five of these kittens are reserved.

Step right up, plenty of milk for everyone!

Hey, get back here!

*Sigh*
